Rena Striegel and Transition Point Business Advisors Expand Succession Consultant Training

DES MOINES, IA, September 03, 2026 – Rena Striegel, President of Transition Point Business Advisors, is expanding the firm’s succession consultant training to prepare more professionals to guide farm families through complex ownership, leadership, and generational transitions.

The expansion includes the Professional Certification Course, Navigating Farm Transition: Guiding Families Through Farm Succession, a two-day intensive program for professionals who work with agricultural families. The course brings together succession strategy, communication, leadership development, family dynamics, and practical tools that consultants can use to guide families through transition.

For Striegel, the expanded training reflects a need she has repeatedly encountered over more than twenty years of working with farm families and family-owned businesses.

“Families deserve succession consultants who understand both the technical plan and the people whose lives will be affected by it,” Striegel said.

Preparing Professionals for the Full Succession Process

Farm succession often involves attorneys, accountants, lenders, financial professionals, and other advisers. Each plays an important role, but Striegel has found that families also need professionals who understand how the different parts of a transition fit together.

A conversation about ownership can quickly raise questions about leadership. Retirement planning may uncover different expectations between generations. Decisions about assets can become difficult when family members have not agreed on where the business is headed.

Striegel believes consultants need to be prepared for those conversations, not just the technical decisions that follow.

The certification course provides participants with a repeatable process for guiding succession engagements from discovery through implementation and accountability. It also addresses communication, conflict, governance, leadership readiness, operational performance, and the family dynamics that can either move a transition forward or bring progress to a halt.

Building Confidence for Difficult Family Conversations

One of Striegel’s priorities is helping professionals become more comfortable leading conversations that do not always have straightforward answers.

After years of sitting with families as they worked through questions about ownership, leadership, retirement, and legacy, she has seen how easily a transition can stall when expectations remain unspoken.

The training is designed to help consultants recognize those barriers earlier and create a process for addressing them.

Rather than replacing the work of legal, tax, or financial professionals, the approach helps succession consultants work alongside those specialists while keeping the broader transition moving forward.

Extending the Impact Beyond One Consultant

Expanding the training also allows Striegel to share lessons developed through years of direct work with agricultural families.

There is a limit to the number of families any one consultant can personally serve. By preparing other professionals to lead succession work effectively, Striegel sees an opportunity to extend that impact to considerably more farms and family-owned businesses.

The Professional Certification Course is intended for consultants, coaches, lenders, accountants, attorneys, financial professionals, extension professionals, and others who advise agricultural families.

The upcoming Navigating Farm Transition: Guiding Families Through Farm Succession course will take place November 17 and 18, 2026, at Transition Point in Johnston, Iowa. Attendance is limited to 10 participants.
